ANNUAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2025
Introduction
At Savoy Hotel Apartments, sustainability is not just a policy – it’s a core part of our identity. In 2025, we deepened our commitment to responsible hospitality by enhancing eco-friendly operations, reducing our environmental impact, and engaging guests, staff, and the local community in meaningful ways. Our approach is guided by international sustainability standards and aligned with the DET Sustainability Requirements, ensuring that our growth contributes to a greener future.
1.Environmental Performance
The Hotel has been a frontrunner in improving the environmental performance since 2010. In the last 16 years, we have continuously met our objectives. Hence, in the year 2025, the target reduction may seem over conservative due to the fact that we have taken long strides in achieving our goals since 2010.
1.1 Energy Management
- .Objective: Reduce overall energy consumption by 2% over the previous year 2024.
- .2 Key Actions Implemented amongst other initiatives:
- Installed automated lighting and air conditioning controls, including timers, to optimize energy usage and minimize wastage.
- Replaced the pool’s electric heater with a high-efficiency heat pump to lower energy demand.
1.2 Water Conservation
•Objective: Reduce overall water consumption by 2% compared to the previous year 2024.
•2 Key Actions Implemented amongst other initiatives:
- Replaced plumbing fixtures with water-efficient alternatives, including low-flow taps and showerheads, dual-flush toilets, and waterless urinals.
- Introduced a linen and towel reuse program, supported by clear and visible signage in guest rooms and bathrooms, encouraging guest participation in water conservation.
1.3 Waste Management
• Objective: Increase the overall recycling rate to 2%.
• 2 Key Actions Implemented amongst other initiatives:
- Replaced single-use guest toiletries with refillable, wall-mounted dispensers to reduce packaging waste.
- Eliminated the use of several single-use kitchen items, including cling film, aluminium foil, plastic straws, confiture sachets, plastic takeaway containers, and plastic carry bags.
1.4 Carbon Footprint Reduction
•Objective: Reduce overall carbon emissions by 5% compared to the previous year (2024).
•2 Key Actions Implemented amongst other initiatives:
- Promoted the use of environmentally friendly transportation options for both guests and employees, including walking, public transport, and courtesy bus services.
- Replaced outdated or inefficient mechanical systems – including HVAC units and refrigeration equipment – with energy-efficient alternatives to reduce emissions.
2. Social Responsibility
2.1 Employee Training & Awareness on Sustainability
•Objective: Enhance employee training programs with a focus on sustainability.
•2 Key Actions Implemented amongst other initiatives:
- Incorporated sustainability education into the orientation program for all new employees, ensuring early awareness and alignment with the hotel’s environmental values.
- Conducted regular training sessions throughout the year on key sustainability topics, including global warming, energy and water conservation, waste reduction, and responsible resource usage.
2.2 Community Engagement
•Objective: Savoy Hotels is committed to supporting social and community development, as well as environmental conservation, through a range of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and volunteering initiatives.
•Actions Implemented – Ongoing:
- Donated lunch food boxes to the UAE Food Bank on a periodic basis to support food security efforts.
- Contributed ‘gently used’ clothing, linens, shoes, bags, and other items to the Kiswa organization, promoting reuse and social welfare.
- Actively encouraged employee participation in environmental initiatives such as Earth Hour, Can Collection Campaigns, Tree Planting activities, and Desert Clean-up Drives.
3. Economic Impact
3.1 Local Sourcing
•Objective: Prioritize supplier selection based on geographic proximity and sustainability credentials. Preference is given in the following order: Dubai-based suppliers, followed by UAE-based, and lastly international suppliers located in close proximity to the UAE.
•Actions Implemented – Ongoing:
- Partnered with local suppliers that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability, local sourcing, fair trade practices, and environmental responsibility
- Integrated sustainability criteria into the supplier selection process to ensure alignment with the hotel’s environmental and social values
3.2 Sustainable Tourism
•Objective: Promote the hotel through its green initiatives to attract and encourage eco-conscious travelers to choose the property as their preferred place of stay.
•Actions Implemented – Ongoing:
- Published the hotel’s Vision and Mission on sustainability on the official website to increase transparency and appeal to environmentally conscious guests.
- Launched the “Green Tip of the Day” campaign, shared with guests via email communication, to raise awareness and encourage sustainable practices.
4.Governance and Compliance
4.1 Legal Compliance
- Objective:
- Ensure full adherence to all Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) regulations and administrative orders.
- Comply with all requirements set forth by Dubai Municipality and Civil Defence applicable to hotel operations.
- Actions Implemented: Conducted regular internal audits and engaged third-party inspections to monitor and verify compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory standards.
4.2 Risk Management
- Objective: Enhance and strengthen risk management processes to ensure preparedness and resilience.
- Actions Implemented: Conducted a comprehensive review and update of the Risk Management and Business Continuity Plan to address emerging risks and improve response strategies.
- Results: Staff are now better equipped and more committed to effectively manage emergency situations and crisis scenarios, thereby improving the hotel’s overall operational resilience.
5. Cultural Heritage and Community Engagement
5.1 Cultural Awareness & Tours to Local sites
- Objective: Enhance guest awareness and appreciation of Emirati culture by partnering with local agents to promote traditional cuisine and guided tours to heritage sites within Dubai’s historic districts.
- Actions Implemented – Ongoing:
a. Marketed and encouraged participation in the Cultural Emirati Lunch program, showcasing authentic local cuisinePromoted Emirati b. Heritage Walking Tours and Express Tours to provide immersive cultural experiences. Highlighted visits to Al Shindagha Museum at c. Dubai Creek, including access to the historic houses within the museum complex.
5.2 Support for Local Entrepreneurs
- Objective: Encourage guests to engage with and appreciate the talents of local artisans and craftspeople.
- Actions Implemented: Advised guests to support handcrafted products from local artisans when visiting traditional districts of Dubai, such as Al Fahidi and Al Seef, during tours to the Al Shindagha Museum and the SMCCU Emirati Heritage Tour / Emirati Cultural Lunch programme.
6. Future Goals
- Short-term Goals: Review and update the Sustainability Management Policy to ensure all established targets are met effectively and on schedule.
- Long-term Vision: Continue to explore innovative and effective methods to reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint through ongoing education of guests and staff. Emphasize the adoption of modern technologies that contribute to minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainable operations.
